James Franco the artist-actor-writer-director wears many hats—in this new body of work, he poses as the characters in his favorite books. This miniature monograph collects 30 postcards, in which Franco reimagines book covers by stepping inside the cover scene. The postcards are prefaced by an essay by Franco about the work, along with a short text from THE THING editors.

THE THING Quarterly is an experimental artist-run publication in the form of objects. It’s like a magazine, except that each issue is conceived of by a different contributor and published as a useful object. THE THING began in 2007 as an experimental publication by visual artists Jonn Herschend and Will Rogan. Their final issue was released in the summer of 2017.
James Franco is an artist, actor, writer, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles.
