$ 5.00
Co-founder of Open-Editions, Lauren DiCioccio lives in San Francisco and works primarily in the media of soft sculpture and fiber arts, particularly embroidery. Although academically trained in painting, she learned from her mother at an early age how to work with needle and thread. Her work explores the expressive qualities of stitchwork and cloth, which she uses to make objects about empathy, nostalgia, melancholy, and joy. More recently she has been working with laminated birch plywood, a much more rigid material that she nonetheless invests with a seemingly pliant, organic vitality. Her work has been exhibited at numerous venues nationally and internationally, including the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, San Francisco MoMA, the Laguna Art Museum, the Bellevue Arts Museum in Washington state, and Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery, London. She is represented by Jack Fischer Gallery in San Francisco.
